The Hill 2.0

At our recent Member Meeting, we informed you that we would be transitioning to The Planning Center Online. The PCO is a set of software tools that will help us organize information, coordinate events and scheduling, improve giving options and communication, and help us connect with one another.

You can create your personal account and download the app to stay connected and follow along. Thanks for your patience as we navigate our way through the transition. We will keep you updated with any relevant changes and progress.

S. S. S.

At our recent Member Meeting on September 8th, the Pastors discussed their desire to focus our efforts on three simple things: (1) Sunday Service, (2) Small Groups, and (3) Study of Scripture.

Sunday

We gather every Sunday to rehearse and respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our liturgy elements within the service reflect two things: a deep passion for God and a shared heritage with the historic church. Our Sunday mornng gathering is how we most clearly assemble as one body. This is how we grow and visibly demonstrate our unity.

Hebrews 10:24–25

Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

Small Group

Our small groups encourage genuine relationships within the church, developing the kinds of relationships that will help us mature and persevere in the Faith together. This context is designed to create space where we intentionally discuss and interact with the sermon, pray for one another, and practice the many “one another”s of scripture. This is truly an “every member” ministry. Meetings occur in a home every 1st & 3rd week, splitting their time between praying and discussion.

1 Peter 4:8–11

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Study

Our time devoted to studying the Scriptures is a supplement to growing in the Word in community. In addition to gathering together on Sunday morning and engaging in regular fellowship in our Small Groups, we are encouraging everyone to seek the many opportunities to grow in God’s Word. We do this primarily through discipleship efforts like Sunday School, Fire On The Hill, Rethinking Retirement, and our Men’s & Women’s Bible Study groups.

Romans 15:4

For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

Register for our Men’s or Women’s Study. They begin this October!

Chaos In The Church

Throughout history, every generation has encountered a moment or two of crisis and chaos, usually manifested in a unique way specific to the context of each local church. The letter of 1 Corinthians was penned primarily because there were particular issues of discipleship, belief, and ethics that Paul wanted to address, but the underlying issue was the chaos of disunity among the believers. The principles found in this letter are timeless, regardless of culture, technology, and specific situations.

Women’s Study | Mondays @ 6:30pm

During the months of October and November the men and women will begin working their way through an eight week study of Paul’s first letter to the church in Corinth. The women will be meeting Monday evenings beginning October 7th, while the men will be meeting Thursday evenings, beginning October 1st.

Men’s Study | Thursdays @ 7:00pm

We are excited for another opportunity to meet during the week, open and discuss God’s Word, and encourage one another in the Faith. There will be some additional resources available for those who desire to attend the study. Please complete the registration form below to let the leaders know you’re planning to come.

MKE Rescue Mission

Since 1893 the Milwaukee Rescue Mission has been working with the hungry and hurting of Milwaukee, helping them restore their lives and their hope. As their needs have changed, they have adapted to meet those needs.

On May 15th, 1893, the Rev. B. Faye Mills and a group of Christian businessmen organized Milwaukee Rescue Mission to help homeless and alcoholic men on the streets of Milwaukee. By working together, they meet the physical and spiritual needs of these hurting men. They also begin a tradition of restoring lives and hope in Milwaukee. Then in 1921 their Mission expanded to include women and children.

Helping Restore Lives Through God’s Grace

After decades of service to Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Rescue Mission is becoming an esteemed institution, providing help to the city’s needy. In addition to the support for men, the Milwaukee Rescue Mission organizes a Woman’s Craft club, and other programs for women and children. These hardworking seamstresses create a role for themselves, providing sewing and clothing for residents of the Milwaukee Rescue Mission.

The Rescue Mission is currently looking for individual to help provide hot, nourishing meals to neighbors struggling with homelessness this Thanksgiving. If you would like to sponsor a table you can go here to do so.

Path To Membership

Come spend a Saturday morning with the Pastors of Grace Hill to learn more about the church and the Biblical values of membership. Childcare will be provided for those who need it, and lunch will be served at the conclusion of our time together.

Saturday, September 28 | 9am-12pm

We are grateful for this opportunity to introduce you to our church. Our hope is that you will be encouraged as we review the values that distinguish our church from others. We truly support every gospel-proclaiming church in our community, but we are sure you’ll understand why this is our favorite — for it is here, with these people, that God has called us to live and labor for His glory.

What are the values of GHC and Why they matter

Our time together will be structured around the values we share. They don’t explain everything about us, but they do provide benchmarks for you to further explore our doctrine and practices. Please feel free to ask your questions during the seminar (and following). Nothing is off-limits or out of bounds. We want to help you understand us. This seminar is for you.

After completing the Membership Seminar, you will have the option of pursuing church membership. We recognize that not everyone is ready for this step and if this describes you, please continue to engage in the life of our church with no expectations. You are welcome here.

Towards Another 181

On August 31st we celebrated God’s faithfulness proclaiming the name of Jesus for 181 years. God is not finished and neither is Grace Hill. We are looking ahead with great expectation and ambition to the next 181 years.

We have a Godly ambition to cultivate a community where meaningful membership goes beyond mere affiliation, where doctrinal clarity guides our faith, where deep relationships foster love and understanding, and where a missional mindset drives us toward Gospel maturity and the multiplication of disciples for the glory of Jesus.

Meaningful Membership
Moving beyond simply joining a club; it's about true commitment and connection.

Doctrinal Clarity
Understanding what we believe and why we believe it.

Deep Relationships
Building genuine relationships so we can know one another and love one another.

Missional Mindset
Growing in the Gospel, aiming for spiritual maturity, and multiplying disciples.

We remain excited for what God is doing in Merton and beyond. It is with great joy that we are leaning into the work of the Spirit to make the name of Jesus known for many years to come!

Sing A New Song

This Sunday our music team will be introducing a new song for us to proclaim. Listen, watch and sing along over the next couple days in order to prepare for our time together on Sunday morning. Thanks for making Sunday mornings a priority to be with God’s people! This is one of the many marks of our unity in the Gospel of Jesus. See you Sunday morning!

We Will Feast in the House of Zion

Written by Keith & Kristyn Getty, Sandra McCracken

Chorus

We will feast in the house of Zion

We will sing with our hearts restored

He has done great things, we will say together

We will feast and weep no more

Verse 1

We will not be burned by the fire, He is the Lord our God

We are not consumed by the flood, upheld protected gathered up

Verse 2

In the dark of night before the dawn, my soul, be not afraid

For the promised morning, oh how long, oh God of Jacob, be my strength

Verse 3

Every vow we’ve broken and betrayed, You are the faithful one

And from the garden to the grave, bind us together, bring shalom

Let’s Talk

Sunday, September 8th - 6-8pm

The church is like a body with many members. Membership in the local church is the logical implication of membership in the global Church, which comes only through faith in Jesus Christ, publicly demonstrated through baptism. Our lives are connected. We need one another. Church membership is our way of ensuring everyone who belongs to our congregation enjoys the benefits and privileges of being Grace Hill Church.

One Meeting You Won’t Want To Miss

If you’re a member of Grace Hill Church, we want you to save the date for our next member meeting, to be held on Sunday, September 8th from 6-8pm. Come ready to hear some important updates, highlight God’s grace as we see Him at work, affirm a few improvements, and enjoy all the custard you can eat!
